Oral Surgery

Occasionally during orthodontic treatment, oral surgery may be necessary to correct abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and teeth. Dr. Anna Patras works closely with many oral surgeons to determine the best course of treatment for her patients.

Oral surgery (known as orthognathic surgery) commonly corrects problems that are associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities.

If orthodontic treatment can correct the problem, orthognathic surgery may not be necessary. Dr. Patras will determine if orthognathic surgery is necessary and, if so, refer you to an oral surgeon.

Uncovering impacted teeth and complicated extractions of teeth may need to be performed by an oral surgeon.
